Oh! yes its true, once again Mabira Deforestation plans have been set in motion by the president of Uganda, His Excellence Yoweri Kaguta Museveni. He raised the issue during a meeting with the members’ of Parliament. This hot issue put the nation in turmoil a few years ago marked by a brutal strike that resulted in death of some Ugandans. A united front against the Mabira giveaway was formed by all elite and illiterate Citizens of Uganda, not to mention all conservation bodies.
This sad situation was only brought to rest after the world bank agreed to fund the construction of the Bujagali hydro station on condition that the forest was to be left intact.
Right now its no every Ugandan’s lips weather whispering in some dark corner or loudly broadcasted on radio stations and Televisions. ..And catalyzing the formation of the bonds to save Mabira Campaign.
Mabira is widely known by all Uganda’s as Kampala greenhouse gas sink region and a major water catchment area for the polluted city(gases produced by a large number of vehicles and industries).
Whilst the government is deadbeat no moving forward with this strongly opposed illegal idea. Most countries around Africa are actually promoting the campaigns to increase forest cover.
To any Uganda this forest represents a source of livelihood for all the ecosystem, for the plants and animals within the forest, to the common man who obtains much needed medicines, fuel, food and fruits. it also encompasses the investors who build safari lodges within, to the whole booming tourism sector as its a major tourist attraction with well maintained trail and services for any travelers.
Such controversial move can only deter the increasing success Uganda has as conservation body, travel destination of choice and internationally recognized by lonely planet, and Nation Geographic as a must visit destinations for 2013.
